This committee meets periodically over the course of the year to plan various outreach opportunities for the parish. Regular food programs in which parishioners are involved include:
supplying the meal and/or driving the supplies to SOME (a soup kitchen in DC) on the second Saturday of the month,
provision of a monthly meal at Chase Men’s Shelter in Rockville on the third Tuesday of the month,
making sandwiches monthly for Sophia House,
and canned food collections the first weekend of each month for Rockville FISH (every weekend during Advent and Lent).
Periodic activities include
collection and distribution of food baskets at Thanksgiving,
a Giving Tree during Advent,
a clothing collection for area shelters,
a collection of needed baby items for Shady Grove Pregnancy Center,
and working annually on a project through Greater DC Cares.
One of the most recent projects for the parish is the adoption of a parish in Haiti, near Cap Haitian. New members and ideas are always welcome. You need not be a committee member or attend meetings to participate in any of the outreach activities. The parish also sponsors a weekly “free will’ collection for specific area charities and provides financial assistance to the hungry and homeless who come here requesting help.
