“The tradition of decorating… the church for liturgical seasons and feast heightens the awareness of the festive, solemn, or penitential nature of these seasons. Human minds and hearts are stimulated by the sounds, sights, and fragrances of liturgical seasons, which combine to create powerful, lasting impressions of the rich and abundant graces unique to each of the seasons.”
(U.S. Catholic Bishops – Built of Living Stones, 123)
The purpose of the St. Elizabeth's Art & Environment Ministry is to create an atmosphere using the liturgical space visual aspects to facilitate and encourage liturgical celebration and the active participation of the faithful. We give a visual expression to aspects of doctrine and spirituality not adequately expressed by words to inspire devotion and religious formation of our Parishioners and those participating in our liturgies.
We do not hold regular meetings but gather as the Church liturgical year requires, with a greater focus during the Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter Seasons. We may meet weekly to create floral arrangements and refresh and restructure plants for the weekend and Holy Day liturgies.
The Ministry welcomes creative people, such as artists, seamstresses, crafters, interior and floral designers, or those who enjoy working with their hands. The Ministry only requires a willingness to be open to new ideas and to work together as a team.
