The St. Elizabeth Book Club is a group of parishioners who share a common desire to grow in our own understanding and practice of the Catholic faith; to consider how to best apply its core principles to our relationships with others and to our role in society; and to recognize and appreciate the common bonds we share with those of other faiths. We come together monthly to discuss books that help us attain these goals. Some of our selections appear in the photograph. Recently, we had an opportunity to gather in fellowship at a “Books and Baklava Bake-a-thon.” Our meetings take place on the second Monday of the month from September through June at 7 pm.

Our next meeting will take place VIRTUALLY, using Zoom on Monday, April 20 at 7:00 PM to discuss “No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion” by Dr. Edward Sri, where “You will walk step-by-step with Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane to Mount Calvary. … Experience a deeper understanding and appreciation of God’s immeasurable and unconditional love for you – grow closer to Jesus than you ever have before.” For your future planning, our May 11 VIRTUAL meeting will feature a discussion of “Saint Katherine: The Life of Katherine Drexel” by Cordelia Francis Biddle, which details the life of the Philadelphia heiress and “Gilded Age luminary who became a selfless worker for the welfare and rights of America’s poorest persons,” working with the African American and American Indian communities and establishing the religious order, the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament. Our originally scheduled book for May, “Just Peace: A Message of Hope” by Mattie J.T. Stepanek with Jimmy Carter, will be rescheduled at a time when we can again meet in person.
