Msgr. Parent has been Pastor of St. Elizabeth since July 2016. His former parish was St. Peter’s Church in Waldorf where he was the Pastor for 9 years. He was also the Dean of the Charles County Deanery of Priests and was one of the official Archdiocesan media spokespersons during the visits of Pope Francis in September 2015 and Pope Benedict XVI in April 2008. From 2005 to January 2007, Msgr. Parent was the Executive Director for Catholic Identity and Mission for Mount St. Mary’s University. From 2003 to 2005 he was the Vice Rector of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, the second oldest and the second largest Catholic seminary in the United States. From 1998 to 2002, he was the Director of Priestly Vocations for the Archdiocese of Washington. During this time he was also one of several official archdiocesan media spokespersons and regularly published homilies in the preaching journal Homiletics. He represented the Archbishop of Washington on the ethics boards of Georgetown, Holy Cross and Providence Hospitals from 1996 to 2002. Msgr. Parent was the Parochial Vicar of St. Peter’s in Waldorf from 1994 to 1998 and of Little Flower Church in Bethesda from 1991 to 1994 and was twice elected as a deanery representative to the Archdiocesan Council of Priests. He attended seminary at Theological College at the Catholic University of America and was ordained in 1991. He is a 1982 alumnus of Bowdoin College, and his home parish is Sacred Heart in Bowie.
